Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP)
Before the baby is born, and for up to 3 days after the birth, we can help families establish the legal relationship between a father and child when the parents are not married. This page is a compilation of information and reference materials to help both parents understand the process and limitations of this process.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office oversees the process of establishing legal paternity.
The information shared on this page is from their site. There is a lot of good information linked through their website. You can click through to their site here: Texas Attorney General
For our purposes, we have 3 steps:
1) watch the video
2) read and sign the sworn legal acknowledgement
3) fill out a survey
Step 1: Watch this Video
Step 2: The legal acknowledgement form can be signed after you watch the video — either before or after birth. We’ll talk about this the next time we see you.
Step 3: Complete PARENT SURVEY which is in your PORTAL (in ClientCare)
